What is a Front/Proxy?

Front / Proxy: A person or entity that acts as the public face for a business or individual, hiding the true owner or operator.

Why use Front/Proxy?

I would like to hide my identity for my own safety and well being. People can be judgmental and harsh these days as they hide behind words on the internet.

Legal, Business, & Intelligence Context (A "Proxy" or "Front Entity")

In legal, corporate, and intelligence fields, a proxy or front is an individual or organization used as a substitute to carry out actions so the real mastermind remains hidden.

  • Front Person / Straw Man: An individual who is publicly listed as the owner of a company, the buyer of an asset, or the leader of an organization, while someone else secretly controls everything behind the scenes.

  • Proxy (Political or Legal): Someone authorized to act, vote, or speak on behalf of another person. In intelligence, a "proxy" might be an individual or group funded and directed by a foreign power to carry out operations without tracing back to the source.

  • Purpose: Evading sanctions, avoiding legal liability, money laundering, espionage, or hiding conflicts of interest.

Summary: A front is usually the facade or persona presented to the outside world, while a proxy is typically the intermediary agent used to carry out actions while keeping the true identity safe and hidden.
