This is an American epic science fiction film directed, written, produced, and co-edited by James Cameron and starring Sam Worthington as Jake Sully and Zoe Saldana as Neytiri.
Movie Summary: On the lush alien world of Pandora live the Na'vi, beings who appear primitive but are highly evolved. Because the planet's environment is poisonous, human/Na'vi hybrids, called Avatars, must link to human minds to allow for free movement on Pandora. Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), a paralyzed former Marine, becomes mobile again through one such Avatar and falls in love with a Na'vi woman (Zoe Saldana). As a bond with her grows, he is drawn into a battle for the survival of her world.
"I was a warrior who dreamed he could bring peace. Sooner or later though, you always have to wake up." ~ Jake Sully
Review
Since the new Avatar movie is coming out I thought I would re-watch the first movie. The CGI and the visual effects in the film has never let this film down. It is the highest quality movie during the time it was made and since technology in our own world is evolving the effects can become better.
The film is based on a fictional planet named Pandora inhabited by a unique blue-skinned humanoid race known as the Na'vi and is centered on Jake Sully, who joins them in his own Navi avatar. It follows his adventures with the Na'vi and how he becomes one with them and finally protects them as their leader from the greed of destructive humans.
Fun Facts
Visual-effects artists used a facial mold with holes in it to place the green dots on the actors' faces.
Na'vi was influenced by Amharic, Persian and Chinese, among other languages.
